AFQ (Arbitrary Film Quotes) No. 2

You have to be obsessive. I know I’ve probably come across as obsessive now, and I just have to admit it. You have to be obsessive to do this and to love this. Otherwise, it’s just too big. It’s a Leviathan. It will swallow you. The only way to not be swallowed by the Leviathan is you get a ton of tenacity and a small spoon and go, ‘Well, I’m going to eat this fucking beast before it eats me. It’s going to take 10 years, one tiny spoonful at a time.’ And that’s how you make a film. That’s how you make anything in this industry. You deal with the immediate and you deal with the long term rejection. And you have to consider both.
— David Slade, Director

Radiator To Premiere At BFI London Film Festival

x is delighted to announce that its first feature co-production Radiator will have its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.

Produced by Turnchapel Films and Rattling Stick, and co-produced by x and Halo, Radiator is a moving personal debut from director Tom Browne, which tells the story of retired couple Leonard (Richard Johnson) and Maria (Gemma Jones) in a poignant portrait of family love, in all its complicated, heart-breaking and life-affirming incarnations.

You can buy tickets to the screening here.

Crocodile Wraps

x has just wrapped on its latest short film Crocodile.

Shot in Bristol over a blustery weekend, Crocodile was directed by Matt Harris-Freeth and produced by Paul Harry Thomas.

Matt has directed music videos for bands such as Mystery Jets and Editors, and he brings his thoughtful filmmaking to this highly original micro-short, which is due for completion in late October.

AFQ (Arbitrary Film Quotes) No. 1

A film producer needs to be a film critic, a film historian, a talent scout, a lawyer, an accountant, a factory foreman, a marketer, a publisher, and a judge of what a worldwide audience is going to want to see in 2 or 3 years’ time. You also need to be a psychotherapist and counsellor, and a career adviser. You should be highly articulate and entrepreneurial, and also a thoughtful analyst and strategist. In military terms, you’re a general, but, most of the time, you don’t have any army - it’s just you.
— Archie Tait, Film Lecturer at London Film School
